Mental health could affect how we think and how we feel.

When you suffer from mental health your mood could be greatly affected. Taking care of your mental wellbeing must be part of your daily routine. Several factors could affect mental health. Biochemistry or genes can be one of the factors. Trauma, abuse, and family history of mental health issues could also be major factors that affect mental health. The stigma surrounding mental health had been high in the past decades. Campaigns and raising awareness on mental health had been on the rise for the past few years. There were studies conducted that when workers are stressed, this may result in various mental health issues and could affect productivity. Mental health is common. People suffering from mental health problems can recover.

Early signs of mental health

There are early signs that someone is suffering from mental health issues. When you lack sleep or oversleep. Lacking sleep and oversleeping is bad for your health in general. This however is also a sign of mental health as sleep is associated with brain function. People lack sleep because the brain is overthinking something they could not solve. People may oversleep because they lack drive. There may be other reasons for lack of sleep or oversleeping but stress and worry can be major factors. Avoiding people and not doing their usual activities could be another indicator. People may face other personal issues for doing this, but it is still something to look into. People suddenly avoiding everyone could have experienced trauma or other extremely stressful circumstances that could result in seclusion. There are other signs like lack of appetite or overeating, feeling helpless and hopeless, and inability to perform daily tasks are just a few of the signs and symptoms of mental health. If you see anybody you know suffering from these signs and symptoms, do not judge them. Do not force them to do extreme measures. While they may try to fight it, they will need your support.

Some workplace is now extending their support to people suffering from mental health issues in the workplace. Corporations would not want unproductive people. People suffering from mental health can be unproductive and this can delay a project and many other impacts in the business. Mental health could have a great impact on the future of the person. Mental health is often accompanied by anger issues and it can ruin relationships among friends, families, and colleagues. When people are suffering from mental health illnesses make sure that they can have access to professional care.

Whether they access it through phone or personally, as long as they can access it. Another thing is that they should know where and how to get help. Include in newsletters information about mental health lines they can easily access. Mental health issues should be taken seriously by companies. Companies can design activities that can help their employees take a break from the stressful environment. Deadlines can be stressful to employees. Add the approach of bosses who would constantly lash out at their employees and you have a perfect recipe for a stressful working environment. There had been companies who are working on how communication must be handled. This is to reduce stress in the workforce.

Mental health training in the workplace

People suffering from mental health issues would not most likely tell others what they feel. Mental health training is also known as the first aid of mental health. This kind of training should be normalized in workplaces. Stressful events like rejected projects or unachieved projected outcomes can add stress to employees. Conflicts in the workplace can also be another source of stress and anxiety. Regardless of the cause of anxiety and depression, positive mental health must be a priority in any kind of environment. Mental health training will enable people to identify early signs of mental health issues so they could easily support their colleagues.

It is important since some people suffering from this kind of illness may not want to discuss it with others. Whether they are seeing a professional seek help or not, individuals have responsibilities to support those who are suffering from one. Mental health training will provide them with information on how to identify and support their colleagues without violating company policies. This training also reduces the stigma of this kind of illness. This educates people, not only those who are providing caring roles like teachers, nurses, and caregivers but everyone.

Communicate for a better mental health

Communication flow can reduce stress. Giving your employees an avenue to ask questions can increase productivity. The thing is, there are instructions in companies that are not clear, policies that have loopholes, and many more that need to be communicated. When employees can ask for clarification and in return give positive feedback, it can greatly increase productivity. Strong communication encourages your employees. In return, they can be motivated and result in innovations. Innovative people can contribute ideas to finish projects early. When the communication line is open, employees would have a chance to experiment on ideas and there is an option to fail. Failure could be a good way to learn something from and good things could come from failure. When people are not afraid to fail, they would also have better ideas that they can suggest without the fear of being shut off. Employees become responsible risk-takers and this could result in brands getting stronger. Communications should be the core value of every company. This motivates people to work better.

Effects of behavioral health on mental health

Communication is part of behavioral health. Behavioral health is the connection between behaviors and mental health. Behaviors can affect greatly mental health. Behavioral health is incorporated into mental health. Behavioral health is about how behaviors could impact mental health. Daily habits could impact your mental health greatly. Good habits like proper diet, daily exercise, and meditation are some of the few good daily habits you can incorporate for better mental well-being. Daily habits such as poor hygiene, lack of sleep, and substance abuse can lead to poor mental health. Mental health is just part of behavioral health. Behavioral health covers a wide range of psychological services such as marriage and counseling, substance abuse treatment, and chronic disease management. Mental health and behavioral health can affect each other greatly. Mental health issues can affect behavioral health and vice versa. The link between behavior and mental health could vary from one person to the other. In some cases, people suffering from serious illness could have depression but those who have depression may not necessarily have a chronic disease.

Impact of COVID-19 on mental health

Mental health issues should not be stigmatized. Some institutions could help people who are suffering from mental health. COVID-19 had a huge impact on the mental health of people. The isolation, the security of tenure, the fear of losing someone to COVID had been huge factors that had greatly impacted the mental health and well-being of individuals. During the height of the pandemic, helplines had been open to support those who had been feeling anxious and depressed. Helplines also is a great tool so people could have professionals who can help them in what they are feeling. You need not wait to suffer from anxiety, depression, and other mental health issues to see a professional. It is better to address it when you start feeling the early signs. Positive mental health should be everyone’s priority.
