It’s extremely normal to feel anxiety in all your relationships and this includes even workplace relationships. When you’re overwhelmed by your anxiety, it’s difficult to think straight because of the all-consuming feelings and thoughts you have. One type of anxiety that makes it extremely difficult to manage relationships, which is relationship anxiety. It’s the type of worry that leads you to believe that something bad is always happening and the relationship isn’t as good as you think. In this article, we’ll be discussing everything you need to know on ways you can manage or recover from relationship anxiety.

1. Maintain your identity

In any type of relationship, whether it’s intimate relationships or workplace relationships, it can be difficult to maintain your sense of identity outside of the relationship. When you truly care about someone, it’s a natural tendency to compromise parts of yourself for their comfort and happiness. However, this can cause or trigger your relationship especially, especially when you start to feel that you’re inadequate in the relationship or that you’re giving more than you’re receiving. Co-dependency is never a healthy thing so the best thing you can do is to hold on to who you are, despite your significant relationships.

2. Communicate your feelings

There’s absolutely nothing wrong with telling them how you feel. Relationship anxiety can feel so overwhelming that when you try to keep it all in, it’s not going to end well for you. Practice communicating what you feel and why you’re feeling anxious in your relationship. Effective communication can also encourage them to reassure you with the right set of words to lead you to believe that your thoughts weren’t the reality of the situation.

3. Be wary of your thoughts

We have at least a thousand thoughts each day, which makes your mind more powerful than you think. No matter how easy it is to believe in your thoughts, you must learn to question and counter them. Most of your negative thoughts come from your deepest fears and insecurities, which is why you can’t trust every negative thought you have.

4. Avoid acting on your feelings

When you feel overwhelmed with your anxiety and insecurities regarding your relationship, avoid the tendency to act on your feelings. Your emotions will pass and you might end up regretting the actions that you do because of your anxiety. As difficult as relationship anxiety is, let yourself process your emotions and thoughts first before doing something about it.

In conclusion, I hope this article was able to shed insight into everything you needed to know on relationship anxiety. It’s never going to get easier managing and overcoming the insecurities and self-doubt that you experience with this type of anxiety, but you’ll get stronger and better. You must remember that your anxiety will never control you and at the end of the day, you always have power over your anxiety. Even if your thoughts convince you of every bad thing about your relationship, avoid believing in them as they’re just fears and doubts you have.
